It used to be that you had to go through Europe to fly from one side of Africa to the other. With the advent and expansion of services by carriers like Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, this is no longer necessary. If only obtaining a visa was just as simple…. the embassies just haven’t caught up yet. I recently took a forced holiday to Paris in hopes of obtaining a visa to Chad in preparation for an upcoming assignment there. Chad has little representation in Africa and I had to get my visa in time to travel with my passport to Mozambique, where I write this post.
While there’s plenty of social documentary material to be captured in Paris, I had to work on video editing during the day and save any excursions for the evening time. Luckily, the sun didn’t set until 10:30 at night. I opted to receive inspiration for my future work from places like the Musee du Louvre and Musee d’Orsay and practice my French in between.
The visa to Chad was approved. On my way at the end of this month.
