Concepción, Bolivia—an historic town in the Chiquitos region shaped by its Jesuit mission roots. Centered around a centuries-old church and open plaza, it’s a place where history isn’t preserved behind glass—it’s part of everyday life. For a week, this "hidden gem" was my base while visiting ChildFund’s RiSK Award project in the surrounding communities. #boliviatravel

3/3 This week I’m in the Indigenous Territory of Monteverde, Bolivia—a vast, remote region of eastern Bolivia, home to the Chiquitano people, whose traditional way of life is deeply tied to the surrounding forest.

In 2024, devastating wildfires swept through the area. @ChildFund responded to immediate needs in the aftermath—and is now focused on what comes next.

Through support from the RiSk Award, ChildFund is working alongside eight Chiquitano communities to build something more sustainable than recovery: preparedness and resilience. This project brings together ancestral knowledge and modern tools—like drones—alongside practical steps like fire drills in schools, sustainable water sources, and expanded forestry education. Together, these efforts are equipping Indigenous children and youth to lead disaster preparedness and environmental conservation in their own communities.
